30 Years After Her First Win, Angela Bassett Makes Marvel History With Second Golden Globe Victory

Because Angela Bassett is one of the most revered actresses in movie and television history, her mantel has certainly made room for some of the entertainment industry’s most prized awards over her 35-year career.

However, despite critical acclaim for portraying the likes of “Bernadine Harris,” Katherine Jackson, Rosa Parks, and many others over the years, major industry honors (i.e. EMMY, Academy Award, etc.) have often eluded her – much to the chagrin of her dedicated legion of fans.

The first step in righting that wrong, however, may have come Tuesday night (January 10) when the 64-year-old captured the second Golden Globe of her career.

As critical acclaim continues to roll in for her portrayal of “Ramonda” in the 2022 film ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ Bassett defeated Kerry Condon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Carey Mulligan, and Dolly de Leon for the Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture honor at the 2023 Golden Globes.

The win is of particular note as Bassett becomes the first actress in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to win for a Marvel role.

Coming as the second Golden Globe capture of her career, the triumph comes 30 years after Angela captured her inaugural Globe trophy for bringing to life the story of Rock Queen Tina Turner in the biographical musical film, ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’
