Things had been relatively quiet in the Middle East over the last month, and with the perpetual clown show that is the Trump administration making a daily spectacle out of itself by renaming random lakes and making MAGA’s xenophobic culture war its entire personality, one could almost forget there was a months-long war with Iran going on.

Then, on Sunday, the U.S. bombed Iran again, and President Donald Trump appeared to post AI slop to celebrate it.

The Washington Post reports that over the weekend, the U.S. military launched an attack on Iranian rocket launchers on an island in the Strait of Hormuz as Iranian forces were preparing to disperse sea mines into the waterway, according to Navy Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for Central Command. In return, Iran targeted U.S. allies in the Middle East in overnight attacks.

CNBC reported that Larak Island was the Iranian territory the U.S. attacked. Trump’s Sunday post on Truth Social, which featured an AI video of U.S. forces launching missiles at an Island, was captioned, “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!!”

Now, this could be proof that the president is confused regarding the facts of his own ill-advised war, or that post could have had nothing to do with the actual strike, and Trump coincidentally posted the AI slop because of the thousand mini wars going on in his probably-demented mind — of which he’s only solved eight so far. (See what I did there?)

Anyway, back to the war that exists in reality.

From the Post:

Local Iranian authorities told the state news agency IRNA that the strikes killed two people and wounded others.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps quickly warned that the U.S. strikes would “result in the punishment of the aggressor” and fired ballistic missiles at a Jordanian air base housing U.S. troops, IRNA reported.

Jordan said it had intercepted eight missiles in the country’s airspace, and the United Arab Emirates said it had shot down an Iranian drone near its territorial waters.

The exchange of fire was the first in a month between the two sides as the Trump administration seeks to navigate a ceasefire.

This is all happening as Trump has some 50,000 U.S. troops occupying a naval blockade of Iran, with the hopes that the blockade will inflict economic pressure on Tehran, setting us on a road towards ending this war for which there is currently no end in sight.

According to CNBC, Trump responded to Iran’s retaliatory attack by declaring, “We’re going to hit them very hard,” and on a call with Fox News, he said, “There will be a response.”

Tough talk and empty promises of a short, one-sided war are all the president and his administration have offered as a costly and deadly conflict no one seems to understand the reason for rages on.

A shame.
