They say if you want to know the true history of any era in politics, you should look to the satirists of the time.

OK, nobody ever said that, but maybe they should, especially when talking about the political landscape under President Donald Trump. Although, to be fair, it must be difficult to come up with satirical ways to depict a presidency that is a consistent parody of itself. How would one even make satire out of the 24/7 sketch comedy show that is the Trump administration?

Well, the writers and creators of South Park have been doing a pretty decent job of it, and now that Trump is out here on a mission to rename everything he sets his sights on after the nation he’s currently running into the ground, they’re having a field day.

In fact, there is no more South Park — it’s South America now.

That’s right, y’all, since the president of the United States is leading by example by signing an executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” much like he signed an order to rename the Gulf of Mexico as “Gulf of America,” and is now toying around with the idea of renaming New Mexico as “New America,” and tech giants Google and Apple have capitulated to the president by changing their map applications to reflect the new names, South Park is falling in line.

“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA,” Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced in a statement Tuesday, according to the Washington Post. “We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation.”

I’m sorry, y’all, but this is my kind of carrying on.

While Sout P–sorry, South America has been roasting Trump and his MAGA-fied cohorts for some time now, this name change takes aim not just at the administration, but at corporations that have helped to normalize the chaos by bowing down and pretending the current White House occupant is the same as any other president we have had and deserves the same level of deference. Google and Apple could’ve done what MapQuest did and essentially said, “Nah, man, just because our president is one wall short of a hallway doesn’t mean we all need to walk off into the MAGA abyss with his delusional ass.”

And do you know what MapQuest got for its refusal to play ball? A surge in downloads — pretty much the opposite of what Target got for playing monkey see DEI, monkey ditch DEI with the president.

Anyway, while a representative for the show at Paramount didn’t comment on South America’s name change, according to the Post, Stone and Parker said in a follow-up statement, “We are 100% committed to SOUTH AMERICA.”

The show’s 29th season premieres Sept. 16 on Comedy Central and is available on Paramount+, which probably won’t change its name to ParAmerica+, but who knows.

We are living in strange and comically moronic times, my good people. We have to laugh to keep from crying.
