September’s Tunnel ‘Fits we can’t stop thinking about

September is a big month for fashion enthusiasts with a capital F. Not only is it the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe as the seasons change, there is back-to-school shopping, and Fashion Month begins here in New York. With the hint of chill in the air, our favorite athletes can really start dressing.
This month’s offerings take us from New York Fashion Week to the NFL, the WNBA, and then to the hockey ice rink, where it was really the details that made the look. Keep scrolling to see our favorites, and be sure to check back next month as we recap the best of October.
Simone Biles
Not exactly a Tunnel Fit, but Olympic gymnast Simone Biles supported her husband, Chicago Bears defensive back Jonthan Owens, in a pair of black jeans customized with his first name on one leg, last name on the other, in crystals. She finished the look with a necklace stack that included a nameplate (their last name, naturally) and a pair of oval, tinted sunglasses. She’s having a lot of fun with her style as a WAG (athletes’ wives and girlfriends), and it’s nice to see.
DeVonta Smith
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver and 2025 Super Bowl champion DeVonta Smith arrived for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys in a white and navy pinstripe suit, Louboutins, and what really makes the outfit – a wide-brim fedora customized with his fiancé and daughters’ names on it.
A’ja Wilson

Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson pulled up to the Crypto.com arena to play against the Los Angeles Sparks earlier this month. In the spirit of wearing your heart on your pants like Simone Biles or your hat, like DeVonta Smith, Wilson is wearing South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley’s baby photo on her hoodie. Isn’t that adorable?

Speaking of Wilson and wearing who she loves, initially the draw of the Tunnel Fit she arrived to play (and beat) the Chicago Sky in was the red-and-black motocross style with over-the-knee boots and a matching Balenciaga jersey. That was until the internet pointed out who else we’ve seen wearing that jersey: Wilson’s boyfriend, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo.
Michaela Onyenwere

Chicago Sky forward Michaela Onyenwere, before her team’s game against the New York Liberty on Sept. 11, wears fashion-forward brand Kai Collective by British Nigerian designer Fisayo Longe. Onyenwere’s logo’d red tank and yellow jeans are new offerings for the brand, and we love to see the support.
Ellie the Elephant

While she isn’t a player, New York Liberty mascot Ellie the Elephant is just as much an attraction off the court as she is on, so we weren’t surprised to see her sitting front row during New York Fashion Week at the Off-White show next to Mary J. Blige, Ciara and June Ambrose. And the accouterments were just what we would expect for someone seated in the front row: hair jewelry, a designer handbag, and bejeweled nails.
Caleb Williams

Speaking of a good set of nails, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is painting his nails again, and this time for a good cause. He tapped Chicago Sky star Angel Reese’s nail tech, Jeimy Lemus, for a manicure with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number, as well as the color of the suicide prevention ribbon during Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.
Djibril Toure
Djibril Toure, a Canadian hockey player for the Belleville Senators, went viral for wearing a durag under his helmet, which he removed when he broke up a fight on the ice. Earlier this month, Toure said he’s currently wearing his hair in braids. Obviously, the durag is a way to preserve them. It’s one of those moments when function and fashion come together.
Sanaa Lathan
Actress Sanaa Lathan attended a Los Angeles Sparks game against the Las Vegas Aces earlier this month, accompanied by Gina Prince-Bythewood, who directed her in Love & Basketball. The actress styled her jersey casually, but it still looked great. “Once a Spark… forever a fan,” she wrote in her Instagram post sharing her and Prince-Bythewood on the jumbotron. “With Gina, cheering for my own team. Had a blast.”
David Montgomery
And speaking of nostalgia, Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery took it all the way back with his Boy Scouts’ sash full of badges, saying he was honored to represent where he came from. Isn’t that an adorable way to wrap up this month’s heartfelt Tunnel Fit details we saw?
