Obama Responds To MAGA Crashout Over Cheesecake Factory Joke, And It Was Masterful

Former President Barack Obama campaigned for Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms in Atlanta on Wednesday, and he took the time to address the MAGA fallout over his jab at President Donald Trump’s obsession with renovating the White House, and the gaudy, tacky way he has gone about it.
And, boy, did he address it. In fact, Obama did what prominent politicians, Democratic lawmakers, and media outlets should have been doing far more often all along: focusing on how absolutely stupid these people are, and how their stupidity, incompetence, and corruption leave them honing in on petty distractions, so no one notices they stand for absolutely nothing.
Because, y’all, even for MAGA, the whole Cheesecake Factory-gate thing was just lame.
“Now, look, I heard the president was not happy when I joked over the weekend that he’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory,” Obama said. “First of all, let me get this on the record. I am the father of two daughters. Do you think I could have survived their childhood without going to the Cheesecake Factory? I lived at Chuck E. Cheese and California Pizza Kitchen and the Cheesecake Factory. That was my jam for about a decade.”
Now, honestly, Obama didn’t really need to do the thing where he reassures people that he was once one of the common folk. After all, no one with the critical thinking capacity of a preteen thought the joke was at the expense of the restaurant itself, or the people who eat there.
But it’s fine; Obama was only just starting to cook anyway.
“Of course, the real problem is the price has gotten so high, a lot of folks can barely afford to go out to eat, so you would think that this administration would be spending time worrying about that. But that was the interesting thing about how the administration responded to the speech I gave,” he continued. “They did not dispute what I said about them being directly responsible for rising prices — they didn’t argue with that. They did not deny tariffs were contributing to higher costs for families. They didn’t say anything about that. I accused this administration — based on the facts — that they were engaging in unprecedented levels of corruption; they didn’t say anything about that. The president wasn’t even mad about the Saddam Hussein comparison. That part didn’t bother him, but he was very upset about the Cheesecake comment. He took great umbrage.”
Now, in my previous report, I did note that neither the president, the GOP, nor any of the Fox News pundits and other right-wing podcasters who spoke on Obama’s joke seemed to even acknowledge the Saddam Hussein aspect of the joke, and how I thought that was strange, considering how often Trump intentionally refers to Obama as “Barack HUSSEIN Obama.” But we’re so used to this administration and its MAGA minions skirting around actual issues in favor of idiotic clickbait nonsense or culture war bigotry that it didn’t even occur to them to point out the fact that none of them bothered denying or even responding to Obama calling out the things that actually matter.
“They mobilized a whole-of-government response to that joke, not to inflation, but to that joke,” Obama went on to say. “This is what I mean when I say these are not serious people. They don’t have solutions to actual problems, so they’d rather have the media and you talking about the Cheesecake Factory.”
Trump knows his supporters are even somehow more moronic than he is — and you don’t have to take my word for it; he tells him that himself, and they applaud.
Here’s Trump explaining to reporters that Republican voters might not know what “incumbent” means, which is rich coming from the guy who just discovered the word “groceries” in recent years, and seems to really believe “mutilization” is a real word, and that it’s happening to kids at school.
Here he is telling his people that “Democrats wouldn’t have passed” the cognitive exams he still seems to be confusing with IQ tests, before, once again, rambling about the lions, snakes, bears, camels, and other animals his doctors keep making him identify.
So, yes, Obama is right: MAGA can’t run on substance because MAGA has no substance; it has bigotry and idiocy. That’s it!
