Here’s the thing about MAGA conservatives: even the more intelligent among them (which is like saying, “even the shortest among stepstools”) have a way of running right, smack into the point, and still missing it.

Let’s take, for example, Fox News host Jesse Watters — an absolute idiot’s idea of a smart person.

As the blue wave turned into a blue tsunami and then a red-xtinction–level event right before his eyes as he covered the midterm election results, we got to watch him crash out in real time, which was fun. At one point, though, Watters began breaking down the election results by voter demographics. It’s the only way he knows how to communicate with his fellow whites.

Watters sounded astonished that so many men shifted towards Democrats. He seemed absolutely gobsmacked that young voters shifted to the left in such massive numbers. And the thing that really seemed to blow his white nationalist mind was that “we split the White vote!”

“Democrats got 48% of White Americans,” Watters bemoaned. “If Republicans can’t run up the score with Whites, the party as it exists today is over!”

Or — and I’m just going to hold conservative Caucasians’ collective hand when I suggest this — maybe it’s time Republicans start to be a little more introspective and wonder why the white vote is so vital to them, what that says about the party and its messaging, and why they’re still losing the white vote, despite all of their doubling and tripling down on racism, xenophobia, misogyny and fearmongering about anti-white racism.

Of course, the problem is that racism, misogyny, misogynoir, fearmongering and general bigotry have collectively been Watters’ bread and butter since the day he replaced Tucker Carlson as Fox News’ Tucker Carlson beta backup.

Here’s Watters, just a couple of weeks ago, telling Republicans that if they want to win elections, they need to rely on “fear porn” and say “these people are scary and dangerous,” which was very obviously all Republicans had been doing up until that point and after.

All Republicans did for the entirety of this election cycle was fearmonger and be bigots, and it didn’t work.

They spread the word that James Talarico — who Watters referred to as “skinny James Talarico” while he was breaking down the election results — was a vegan and a wimp who wants men in women’s sports, and thinks God is a trans person.

And what was the result? Talarico stomped Ken Paxton by double digits and became Texas’ first Democratic senator-elect since 1988.

They tried their absolute best to make Abdul El-Sayed an Islamist terrorist sleeper cell who would bring whatever they think Sharia law is to the U.S. and have all their precious white women in burqas by the time he’s sworn into office.

And what was the result? El-Sayed became the first Muslim to be elected to the U.S. Senate in history, beating Mike Rogers by seven points, which El-Sayed predicted would be the outcome.

Republicans lost gubernatorial races in Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Iowa, and other states no one thought Democrats could win. Democrats also picked up congressional seats in nearly every single battleground state. And many of those House, Senate, and gubernatorial races — where Black women, Latinas, and other demographics conservatives would typically consider unelectable, won — were not even close, meaning, after all that hatemongering and all those hundreds of millions spent, Republicans never had a chance at winning those seats.

So, now that everything is all said and done, and MAGA America is grappling with its humiliating loss, are they being more introspective? Are they starting to put it together that being bigoted, mean-spirited idiots who buy into and spread every piece of right-wing propaganda that comes across their newsfeeds is not working out in their favor anymore?

I mean, come on, y’all — we already know the answer to that.

I mean, it’s one thing to fail an open-book test, but continuing to fail the test after getting back the test results requires a special kind of stupid, and an even more special kind of hate.

Sad.
