How To Make A Safari Honeymoon More Budget-Friendly Without Sacrificing On Your Once In A Lifetime Experience
Though safari honeymoons are often associated with a notable price tag, a shift in perspective can change how couples view the cost.
Safari honeymoons have a long, unique history linked with romance. They are a breathtaking post-wedding experience where lovers can see the Big Five (elephants, lions, leopards, Cape buffalo, and rhinoceros) with backdrops of some of the most scenic landscapes in African countries, including Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, and Kenya. Ways to safari include by foot, game drive, horseback, boat, small plane, and even a hot air balloon. Additionally, accommodation types range from luxury lodges on reserve sites to mobile tents and treehouses in the bush. Regardless of what a couple chooses, safari honeymoons breed special, unforgettable memories that they can cherish for a lifetime.
Naturally, the overall expense is something most couples have at the top of their list of primary considerations. Even if a safari honeymoon is their dream, the cost may unfortunately be a barrier.
Thankfully, Fora Travel Co-Founder Henley Vazquez offered an insightful perspective on Travel Noire regarding the price tag of a safari honeymoon. The expert shared her two cents on why safari experiences on honeymoons in Africa are increasingly popular.
“One thing couples have started to realize is that while safaris have a reputation for being expensive, the value calculation is more nuanced than it appears,” she explained. “It’s not an inexpensive trip — but when you factor in the rising costs of other popular honeymoon destinations like Hawaii or Italy – and the fact that safaris are almost entirely all-inclusive – the math starts to shift.”
“Once you arrive [at your safari honeymoon destination], everything is covered – all meals, all transfers, all game drives. The only out-of-pocket expense is typically a tip for your guide,” Vazquez added. “When you break it down that way, a safari can actually be comparable in cost — and sometimes better value — than what couples might spend piecing together a luxury trip elsewhere.”
What Else Is There To Know About Safari Honeymoons?
A Fora Travel report shared earlier this year claimed that for the company’s advisors, safari honeymoons remain a top favorite. Additionally, the report shared that “safari continues to lead bucket lists, with South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania – often paired with Seychelles, Mozambique, or Zanzibar – topping demand.” The latter travel combos, referred to as “bush-and-beach” pairings, are among several experiential honeymoon options increasingly captivating couples planning their post ‘I dos.’
