‘Good embarrassment’: When ‘The Odyssey’ didn’t invite one of its giants to the premiere, his fiancée gave him an epic surprise

Lloyd Ejimbe’s fiancée, Nneka Banks, shares details of how she surprised “The Odyssey” actor with a Hollywood moment of his own.
When Hollywood failed to roll out the red carpet for Lloyd Ejimbe—who, despite appearing in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” as one of its towering giants, was not invited to the film’s world premiere—his fiancée made sure he got his Hollywood moment anyway.
The British actor was treated to a surprise “personal world premiere” experience that rivaled the real thing.
“If Hollywood doesn’t send an invite… create your own premiere,” read the caption of an Instagram Reel documenting the special day.
In the video, Ejimbe’s fiancée, Nneka Banks, explains that the couple wasn’t invited to the premiere despite his role in the film, then surprises him with specially designed, laminated premiere passes featuring photos of him on set and a heartfelt message celebrating his future in the industry. After watching the film and seeing himself on the big screen, she gave him one final surprise, standing up in the theater to let a room full of strangers know they had just watched the movie alongside one of its stars.
“Excuse me, everyone, he was one of the giants,” she announces as moviegoers turn around in shock before erupting into applause and giving him a standing ovation.
Ejimbe even stops to pose for photos with several moviegoers as his fiancée thanks them for helping make the experience so memorable. By the end of the evening, his smile is stretching from ear to ear as he thanks her for the surprise, joking that it was “good embarrassment.”
“Congratulations @lloyd.ejimbe on being part of The Odyssey,” Banks continued in the caption. “Every giant journey starts with one step… and apparently one determined fiancée who refuses to let any achievement go unnoticed. Thank you, Christopher Nolan and everyone who gave Lloyd the opportunity to be part of such an incredible production. Watching it in 4DX took the film to another level! Here’s to many more films, many more premieres (official ones next time
), and celebrating every single win along the way. God is just getting started.”
From Ejimbe’s palpable joy to his fiancée’s excitement at celebrating his accomplishment, and the glimpse of Black love the whole thing offers, the video has quickly gone viral, with many praising the thoughtful surprise while introducing even more people to the rising actor.
“The Odyssey” is Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic, following Odysseus’ long and perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The star-studded cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, among others. It remains unclear why he wasn’t invited to the premiere. However, with blockbuster productions featuring massive ensembles of cast and crew, not every performer is included in premiere events.
Ejimbe did not immediately respond to theGrio’s request for comment.
Based in London, he stands nearly 7 feet tall and has built a career as both an actor and model. Away from the screen, he shares fashion, lifestyle, and travel content across social media, often featuring his fiancée as the pair explores London together. Since the premiere video began circulating online, he’s received an outpouring of support from friends, fellow actors, collaborators, and fans celebrating both the touching gesture and his growing career.
Many online have also praised Ejimbe’s fiancée for ensuring his milestone didn’t go unnoticed.
“I love this!! ‘Excuse me…he was one of the giants!’ A woman’s love is pure

congratulations on the Giant role, I’m seeing it tonight and imma be gassing about how I know one of the giants,” wrote a user on Instagram under the comments.
Another added, “This is enlightening. You’ve got a good one. More to come bro.”
“This. Is. Incredible!
glad to see my man @lloyd.ejimbe got his flowers (and then some),” wrote someone else.
“Awwww this is beautiful, gotta love a black woman,” wrote another commentator.
The fiancée in question added later in the comments, “Moral of the story: Clap the loudest for the people you love.
Christopher Nolan… save us two seats at the next premiere, we promise we’ll RSVP.”
