Vacation Fling Or Sneaky Link? These Cities Ranked America’s Most Unfaithful

Some trips come with museum tickets, dinner reservations, and a respectable bedtime. Others come with hotel bars, late-night texts, and decisions people would rather not explain when they get home.

A new study is putting that messier side of travel and dating under the spotlight. Research from DuelBits, shared with Travel Noire, ranked the 100 most populated U.S. cities using multiple metrics to create an overall “faithful” index score out of 10. The cheating-related data included divorce rates, catfishing victims, and searches for affair-related websites and hidden messenger apps. The methodology cited FBI data for catfishing victims, Advisement.com for divorce rates, and Google Ads Keyword Planner for search behavior.

The study is less a moral judgment than a look at how certain places are tied to temptation and escape. A city’s reputation is shaped by more than its attractions. For instance, nightlife, hotel culture, dating apps, conventions, and short-term visits can all foster the sense that people are moving through a place with fewer social consequences than they might face at home.

Las Vegas, Miami, And Portland Ranked Highest

Las Vegas ranked as the most unfaithful city in the U.S. in the DuelBits study, with an overall score of 9.60 out of 10. The city recorded the highest divorce rate in the study at 11.27% and the highest rate of catfishing victims at 11.2 per 100,000 people each month. Las Vegas also recorded 3,004 monthly searches for affair-related websites per 100,000 people.

The ranking aligns with how Las Vegas is often understood as a travel destination. The city’s visitor economy is strongly associated with casinos, resorts, nightlife, bachelor and bachelorette trips, pool parties, late dinners, and entertainment that runs well beyond normal business hours. Its reputation is tied to visitors escaping daily routines and acting differently than they would at home. The DuelBits study does not say that tourism causes infidelity, but Las Vegas shows how a destination can become associated with secrecy, adult entertainment, and temporary escape.

Miami ranked second, with an overall score of 8.54 out of 10. DuelBits found Miami had the country’s second-highest rate of affair-related website searches, with 4,086 monthly searches per 100,000 people. Furthermore, the city also recorded a divorce rate of 10.81% and eight monthly catfishing victims per 100,000 people.

Miami’s placement also fits its public image. The city draws visitors for beaches, nightlife, luxury hotels, destination restaurants, festivals, clubs, and late-night plans. For travelers, this can create an environment where dating, flirtation, and privacy feel easier than they might at home.

Coming in third, Portland earned a total score of 7.03 out of 10. The Oregon city recorded a 10.6% divorce rate, 1,766 monthly affair-related website searches per 100,000 people, and 8.5 monthly catfishing victims per 100,000 people. Portland’s ranking shows that the conversation is not limited to obvious party destinations. Importantly, cities with active dating scenes, creative communities, nightlife pockets, and app-driven social cultures can also show up strongly in data tied to digital secrecy and relationship behavior.

Atlanta Had The Highest Rate Of Affair-Related Website Searches

Atlanta ranked as the 10th most unfaithful city in the U.S., with an overall index score of 6.26 out of 10. The city did not have the highest divorce rate or the highest catfishing rate, but it stood out for search behavior. According to DuelBits, Atlantans made 5,049 monthly searches for affair-related websites per 100,000 people, the highest rate in the study. The release said that the figure equals 25,180 monthly searches.

Ashley Madison was the most-searched-for affair-related website in Atlanta, with 6,000 monthly searches, according to the study. DuelBits also included searches for Seeking, Confide, and Session in its affair website and hidden-messenger app search categories. Atlanta’s divorce rate was 8.95%, slightly above the U.S. average of 8.91% cited in the study. However, Atlanta recorded the lowest catfishing victim rate in the ranking, with 4.6 victims per 100,000 people each month. That figure came in below the study’s U.S. average of 6.72.

A spokesperson for DuelBits said online platforms and dating websites can create “a sense of anonymity and detachment from real-world consequences,” which may encourage dishonest behavior or emotional infidelity.

“What we’re seeing in cities like Atlanta is how strongly digital behavior and search activity can vary by location, with some areas showing significantly higher levels of engagement with cheating-related content than others,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that cheating is not always physical, pointing to secret online relationships, catfishing, and deceptive digital behavior as growing parts of modern dating culture. Atlanta’s ranking brings the travel angle into sharper focus because the city is not marketed around secrecy in the same way as Las Vegas. Its appeal comes through restaurants, lounges, music, sports, film production, festivals, conventions, and a nightlife scene that draws both locals and visitors. For someone arriving for a conference, concert weekend, group trip, or major event, the city can offer a fast-paced social environment where digital connections are easy and anonymity feels more accessible.
