President Donald Trump has announced that the Pentagon will not be livestreaming the execution of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who was convicted of fatally shooting 13 people and wounding 32 others at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009.

Last week, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gleefully announced that Hasan would be executed by firing squad at Fort Hood, and that the execution would be filmed and livestreamed for the world to see. However, the live airing of the execution, which will still proceed as scheduled, will not happen, presumably, because somebody with some kind of sense pulled someone in this administration to the side and pointed out to them that they have lost their damn minds.

Either way, Trump announced the cancellation of the stream via social media, in a post where he predictably continued his obsession with his predecessor by mentioning that “Barack Hussein Obama’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)” failed to prevent the mass shooting, which, of course, is rich coming from the president whose election fraud propaganda demonstrably influenced a deadly domestic terrorist attack at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“With all of that being said, I think streaming the execution for all to see might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan but, many very good and well-meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device,” Trump wrote before assuring his followers that Hasan “will die, as scheduled, by firing squad.”

This appears to be yet another instance of Trump and his administration finding out in real time that their ideas aren’t as popular as they think. Because these people are out of touch with everyone but their most deplorable and moronic supporters, they didn’t expect that announcing the livestream of an execution — even that of a murderer they have branded as an Islamic extremist — would result in so much across-the-board outrage and discomfort. According to the New York Times, even Vice President J.D. Vance told reporters, “I’m not going to be watching it,” and, “I don’t know that that’s actually going to happen.”

When the vice president who can’t complain about being called racist without saying some racist shit is the closest thing this administration has to a voice of reason, there might be a problem.

Meanwhile, Democrats might be happy about Trump reversing course, but not so much that they’re willing to ignore the absurdity that got us here in the first place.

“This episode highlights the impulsive and dysfunctional civilian leadership from the White House and U.S. Department of Defense,” Sen. Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island), the top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, told the Times. “Secretary Hegseth deserves to be admonished for his lack of judgment, lack of strategy and poor communication — not just in regard to this one episode but throughout his disastrous tenure as secretary of defense.”

As we previously reported, several Republican senators feel the same about Hegseth’s overall performance as Defense Secretary, but the administration has stood by him because corrupt, incompetent, and intentionally cruel birds of a feather flock together.

Sad.
