Trump Posts Fake Quote Of Denzel Washington Calling Him ‘A Great Friend And Better President’

Look, we were already well aware that President Donald Trump is not a man who lives in the same reality as the rest of us, but there’s just no way this man really thought Denzel Washington was about to be out here on Angela Bassett’s internet singing his orangey-white nationalist praises.
Please tell me that even Trump isn’t so delusional that he thinks the man who embodied Malcolm X in the ’90s would be a supporter of the president who would scrub Malcolm and every other Black revolutionary from U.S. history curricula across all 50 states if he could.
There’s just no way this president thought Mr. Bleek Gilliam would be out here trumpeting “Mo’ MAGA Blues” for an outwardly racist, observably stupid, blatantly corrupt, comically incompetent imbecile of a commander in chief like himself.
Not our Uncle Denzel; I guarantee.
Yet, on Monday, Trump had the Tang-flavored caucasity to repost some other fictional Black friend-conjuring right-winger who claimed Washington said this:
“I’ve worked with a lot of people in my life, and I’ve never met anyone braver, smarter, or who cares more about America than Donald Trump. He’s a great friend and an even better president. I’m proud to be a steadfast supporter, and I’ll never apologize for it.”
Now, MAGA — please, be for real.
I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump stares in the mirror every morning after watching Denzel’s famous monologue as Officer Alonzo Harris on Training Day, and imagines himself telling Letitia James, Ilhan Omar, James Comey, and Barack Obama, “Oh OK, I’m putting cases on all you bitches! Huh?“
But just because Trump might admire the Oscar winner (or whatever Black guy he saw in a movie once and thought was Denzel), that doesn’t make them friends.
In fact, according to Snopes, the same quote lauding Trump has circulated on social media before, first attributed to Matthew McConaughey, then to Mick Jagger.
See, the problem with Trump isn’t just that he’s so egregiously lacking in self-awareness; it’s that he’s just as prone to being fooled by disinformation as he is to spreading it, and he’s just as gullible as any other rube on the internet who passes along whatever absurd nonsense comes across their newsfeed because they can’t discern what’s real from what’s fake.
At this point, I’m pretty sure that a year ago, when Trump shared an AI-generated video of himself promoting a QAnon medical conspiracy theory about a cure-all “medbed” that can “restore every citizen to full health,” he actually thought that was him in the video, not an AI version of him.
Side note: I’m starting to think the only reason Trump renamed AI as “Super Intelligence” is that it’s the only way he can explain why he’s fooled by even the most obvious AI. Like, sir, it’s not “Super Intelligence” just because it’s smarter than you.
Not that the fake Denzel quote was ever a thing that needed to be fact-checked, but as Newsweek noted, “Federal Election Commission records show that Washington previously donated to Democratic candidates, including $28,500 to former President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign and $27,000 to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, when she was running against Trump.”
That man don’t like you anymore than most celebrities do, Don the Delusional. Better go repost Kid Rock, or something.
