Trump Calls AI Warnings A ‘HOAX’ While Industry Leaders, Including Elon Musk, Say Otherwise [Op-Ed]

In today’s episode of The Only Good Idiocracy Is A Dead Idiocracy, President Donald Trump and his administration of professional know-nothings are determined to push artificial intelligence as the future of U.S. industries, even as AI experts warn it could be destroying the world. They want the AI industry to run free and unrestricted, even as insiders at all levels of the industry are saying at the same time: Nah, son, we need to be restricted like a MF!

Last week, we reported that multiple employees at AI research and products corporation Anthropic had taken to social media to sound the alarm on artificial intelligence technology advancing fast, being handled irresponsibly, and threatening to “kill all humans” within the next decade or so, and days later, leaders at the company released a report, claiming that in this year alone, it had disrupted several potential plots by scientists to use its leading AI models to conduct research that could have helped develop biological weapons. This came on the heels of top OpenAI leaders, including CEO Sam Altman, warning that AI technology was advancing too fast to have so few guardrails.

Well, according to the Associated Press, those sentiments from AI industry leaders and insiders are being echoed by SpaceXAI’s Elon Musk. Yes, that Elon Musk. The same Elon Musk who never met a data center he didn’t want to plant in a poor Black neighborhood. Musk, aka Phony Stark, aka Apartheid Vader, even thinks AI should have greater government oversight. Meanwhile, the president thinks it’s all a “HOAX” and a “SICK conspiracy,” like “the Global Warming scam” and “RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA.”

“I am the Hoax Buster, and I’m right now breaking another Hoax,” Trump posted Monday. “That AI is going to take over, consume, and destroy the World, and that Robots will be marching into our Cities, and getting rid of us all! This is even wilder than the RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA HOAX, or the Global Warming Scam.”

Everything is always a hoax when it comes to Trump. Affordability is a “hoax,” even though he ran on lowering prices. The Epstein debacle, including the testimony of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims, is all a “Democrat hoax,” even though he ran on releasing the files. All things concerning Russia and his election were a “hoax,” even though files he had released showed, well, not so much.

And it’s well-documented that during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump downplayed the severity of the global health crisis, which many experts believe made the crisis infinitely worse in the U.S.

Now, leaders and other experts across the AI industry are sounding the alarm that AI is moving fast and recklessly enough to harm the environment beyond repair, produce bioweapons, and take over humanity Skynet-style, or at least it’s rapidly becoming more capable of recursive self-improvement than they ever thought possible, and Trump wants to ignore it, because his administration has invested billions into the industry’s infrastructure since the start of his second term.

People are wary of AI’s advancement as well. In July, we reported that an Economist/YouGov poll found that  63% of U.S. adults think AI is advancing too quickly, and 73% “say they do not trust AI to make ethical decisions.” Still, the president calls it all a hoax, just like global warming, which is also not a hoax, according to the overwhelming majority of climate scientists across the globe.

I’m sorry, but we should all be far more concerned than we are that the president of the United States is basically Mayor Phlegmming from Osmosis Jones.

No, seriously.

Look, the world likely won’t end in 10 years. And if you actually read and listen to what experts and industry leaders have been saying and reporting, they’re warning of potential harm that could come fast and hard if the technology keeps developing without any real semblance of regulation and oversight. And it’s not just a bunch of “woke” liberal Democrats saying it, as Trump and his sycophants in the GOP would have us believe. It’s the people who run and work in the industry who are saying it; people who are also invested in its success. That’s who’s sounding the alarm, unfortunately, to people who have a track record of ignoring science, actual expertise, and factual information.

Without a major leadership change, we are cooked.
