Look, we really didn’t need any more evidence that President Donald Trump and his supporters are bigoted morons who don’t care about truth, integrity, or the abuse of power to weaponize bigotry and moronic propaganda, but if we did need that additional evidence, the administration’s attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar would provide it in abundance.

As you all know by now, earlier this month, federal agents executed a search warrant on Omar’s Washington, D.C., area home, as the administration claims she’s being investigated for possible fraud regarding her immigration paperwork.

Homeland Security Investigations, ICE’s investigative wing, seized Omar’s phone and issued grand jury subpoenas to some of her relatives. Now, the Justice Department is asking a federal judge to keep the contents of its warrant to search Omar’s home sealed until after the midterm elections, which is odd, considering Trump and his minions seem so confident in the merit of their investigation.

But we’ll circle back to that in a second. First, let’s take a look at Omar’s first interview since the raid, where she sat down with MS NOW’s Chris Hayes to talk about the raid as well as other attacks she’s suffered from people who just hate her because she’s Black, she’s Muslim, and she DGAF about fragile, white feelings.

“It would be a huge undertaking to, I suppose, indict a 12-year-old for so cleverly conspiring to defraud immigration services to come to the United States. I’m sure there are a lot of smart 12-year-olds, but that seems like a leap,” Omar told Hayes, pointing out the sheer ridiculousness of this administration and this president — who has made his hatred for Omar and all of Somalia well-known — going after an elected official with nearly a decade of lawmaker experience, who has been in this country since she was a preteen, and a naturalized U.S. citizen for 26 years.

Omar said federal agents seized a total of 17 items from her home, that they did it all just to “freak” her out, and that she won’t be living there when it’s all over, because she no longer feels safe.

“I mean obviously, I can’t continue to live there,” she said. “So we have to figure out where to move to, because our address has been public and with the death threats that I deal with, it’s no longer going to be feasible to be in that house and have my kids, like, visiting off and on, having people track them.”

She also spoke on the glaring fact that racist Republicans have spent years calling for her to be deported, despite there being no legal or constitutional grounds for it, which, by the way, hasn’t stopped the administration from doing it to others, or at least trying to.

Of course, Trump supporters, being the exact “deplorables” Hilary Clinton said they were, only seem to want to focus on one part of the interview, when she and Hayes talked about the sheer stupidity of the MAGA-made rumors that she married her brother for a green card, with these idiots thinking they have some “gotcha,” because when Hayes asked whether there was a “kernel of truth” to the rumors, she sarcastically said, “Not to my knowledge,” as she chuckled about it.

From The Guardian:

Those in Trump’s orbit – cabinet officials and rightwing influencers alike – have promoted baseless theories about the Democratic congresswoman, accusing Omar of being in a sham marriage with her brother and fudging details of her immigration paperwork.

The brother rumors circulated on a Somali blog, Omar told MS Now host Chris Hayes, before it gained traction with rightwing conspiracy theorists in Minneapolis.

She believes the raid was designed to appease Trump loyalists.

“They kept alluding to the fact that something was going to happen to me,” Omar told Hayes. “They had to do something, I believe, to say, ‘Hey, look we raided her house.”

During the part of the interview where they discuss the rumor of her marrying her brother, Hayes even acknowledges that the administration has moved on from that nonsense, and is now on some new nonsense, investigating the allegation that her father misrepresented her age on his immigration paperwork, which Omar called “convenient,” since he’s dead and can’t defend himself.

Speaking of convenience, let’s go back to the part where the administration doesn’t even want the warrant unsealed until after the midterms.

In a motion filed Wednesday, lawyers in U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office asked Chief Judge James Boasberg to push back the deadlines for answering three requests to unseal the warrant records. The motion claims “good cause exists to extend these deadlines until after the subject search warrant has been fully executed,” but the government offered two timelines for it to release the records, neither of which would see them released before the Nov. 3 election, which very likely means they want to wait until after the midterms.

The requests for the warrant to be unsealed were made by 15 news organizations, including the New York Times, which addressed the DOJ directly in its motion, writing, “We are also perplexed regarding what ‘execution’ you refer to. As has been well-publicized, the Government executed the search warrant on October 12, 2026, and subpoenas have been served on Rep. Omar’s family members.”

“The public’s immediate right of access obviously would be thwarted by an effectively unlimited suspension of the Government’s deadline to respond to The Times’s Application,” the Times continued. “The continuing lack of transparency surrounding the search warrant and related filings is especially intolerable in the run-up to an election in which Rep. Omar is a candidate for office.”

Here’s the thing: so far, every attempt Trump has made to weaponize lawfare against his political rivals has fallen apart almost immediately because the cases clearly had no merit, causing the administration self-inflicted public embarrassment. This case against Omar will likely suffer the same fate, which may be why they’d rather save that humiliation until after people have voted.

But facts, logic, lost cases, and general reality have never been enough to stop Trump and his minions from spreading their stupidity. It’s a sad state of affairs, and, unfortunately, very American.
