Pentagon Permits DHS To Test Heat Ray Weapon For Use At Southern Border…Because Why Not?

In today’s episode of Our Government Wants To Be Hydra So Bad, the Pentagon has permitted the Department of Homeland Security to test a military-grade heat ray for potential use at the southern border. Apparently, the Trump administration didn’t think it was enough to turn ICE and Border Patrol into a MAGA military arm; it also needed to give them a death ray.

If we needed any more evidence that “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth got everything he knows about “warrior ethos” from Marvel and DC Comics, here it is.

The heat ray, officially known as the Active Denial System, is a nonlethal weapon that shoots an invisible beam of electromagnetic waves that can reach a little more than half a mile away, according to the US military.

The energy beam causes a burning sensation when it comes into contact with the human skin — which Pentagon officials have previously compared to feeling a blast of heat when opening a hot oven. Military officials have said the resulting “tingling effect” lasts between 10 and 15 minutes but also generates “an instinctive and irresistible urge to run from the effect.”

Deploying the heat ray at the US border would be an unprecedented step, even for the Trump administration, which has made border security and clamping down on immigration a top priority. The DHS request did not specify where or how the weapon would be tested and how it might eventually be used, but over the years, there have been internal discussions about potentially using it for crowd dispersal along the US-Mexico border, according to current and former Customs and Border Protection officials.

OK, so it’s not so much a death ray as much as it is a giant, overpowered hairdryer, designed to deter migrants from crossing over the border by threatening them with wicked artificial sunburns.

You know, I always suspected this administration was full of the kids who used to fry insects with magnifying glasses, but I think we just confirmed it.

Also, they must think everybody has their sensitive Caucasian skin, don’t they?

On a serious note, if the administration did begin allowing DHS to use this technology at the southern border, there’s no reason to think it would stop there. In fact, CNN reported that “US officials had also considered deploying the system during moments of domestic unrest, including at the end of President Donald Trump’s first term when protests erupted over the murder of George Floyd, according to a former US official familiar with those discussions.”

And there it is…

This is the reason why — especially under this administration — there’s just not much distinction between the fight against ICE and abusive immigration enforcement, and the fight against a government weaponizing itself against Black people. After all, the same administration that sent ICE to go hog-wild in Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New Orleans, and other Democratic cities with high concentrations of Black and brown people is sending the National Guard to the same cities to do the same thing.

Anyway, according to ABC 15 News, what the Pentagon authorized for DHS is a “temporary loan” of one ADS system for seven months, starting in September. The authorization memo says the system “shall not be operated by Department of War personnel,” and it says DHS will be solely responsible for its use and for developing tactics and procedures. 

First of all, the fact that they even have to call it the “Department of War” in an internal memo shows how deep the delusion is in this absurd administration.

Every single day these people give us a new reason to ask: WTF are we even doing here?
