NewsOne Week In Review: Trump Bans Media And Converse Steps In It 

Welcome back to the NewsOne Week in Review, where I give you a quick rundown of the news you might have missed. From an update in the Nolan Wells case to a judge shutting down President Donald Trump’s media ban, there’s a lot to cover, so let’s get into it.

Autopsy Reveals Lack Of Fluid In Nolan Wells’ Lungs

There were several developments in the Nolan Wells case this week. On Monday evening, it was revealed that a grand jury declined to file criminal charges related to Nolan’s death. Sadly, that part is unsurprising, as the entire investigation has felt focused on proving nothing happened, even if it means leaving significant stones unturned. 

Soon after the grand jury issued its ruling, civil rights attorney Ben Crump held a press conference revealing the results of Nolan’s autopsy. While the grand jury determined that Nolan died from drowning, the autopsy revealed that no fluid was found in his lungs. Additionally, the company Nolan’s family hired to examine his phone released a statement detailing how the state walked back its agreement to a joint investigation. 

The more we learn about how the state has handled the investigation into Nolan Wells’ death, the harder it is to trust anything they’ve said.

Judge Strikes Down Trump’s Media Ban 

President Trump continued his efforts to be a bootleg dictator this week by banning CNN, MS Now, and Politico from the White House because their coverage wasn’t nice enough. 

Sure, we’re in an unnecessary war with Iran, gas prices keep rising, food is more expensive and increasingly unsafe, people can’t afford healthcare, and the job market is a joke, but the real problem is that the media isn’t reporting on all the good things Trump has done. Like, uh, *checks notes* wow. 

I got nothing, y’all. 

One of the more surprising things was Fox News boycotting the White House to stand in solidarity with the media outlets that were banned. It shouldn’t have surprised anyone that a federal judge struck down the ban because it blatantly violated the First Amendment. Trump initially seemed to defy the court order, but ultimately relented and allowed the media outlets back into the White House. 

Converse Pulls Racist Ad Due To Backlash 

If you happened to be on social media over the last week, you likely saw a Converse ad that, at first glance, looked a lot like feet dangling by a Ku Klux Klan robe. The image is actually just a woman in a white skirt standing in a star while holding a pair of Chuck Taylors, but the lighting and framing of the image were … questionable, to put it politely. 

I legit had to do a double take the first time I saw it because I couldn’t understand what I was seeing, and then once I could make it out, my first thought was, “Who approved this? How did nobody see how this could go wrong?” 

Converse pulled the ad campaign earlier this week after the understandable backlash. I don’t understand how we’re in the big ‘26, and companies still keep trying racially loaded imagery. Especially when the only people who would probably be OK with that approach are either billionaires who aren’t buying your products, or weirdos who can’t afford it.
