From courtside to catwalk: Brittany Hampton’s fashion vision

Introducing Aesthetically Speaking, our series that delves into style-minded storytelling at the intersection of fashion and sports, featuring the brands and stylists who make it happen.
If you’ve seen an athlete wearing something you liked recently, chances are that creative director and stylist Brittany Hampton was behind it. Hampton’s roster of clients and brand collaborations is growing, and she’s showing no signs of slowing down.
Her job as a stylist is to curate talent individually, determining which brands work best for each particular client, and to speak to who they want to become on and off the court, whether that’s for the likes of Russell Westbrook, Cameron Brink, Paige Bueckers or Nika Mühl.
Hampton’s been honing her craft and talent since she was a teenager, working as a visual merchandiser at Express. Her grandmother was a designer, so Hampton initially thought that was her goal. However, as a child model, she became more curious about the woman who designed and put her in the clothing.
To Hampton, when she sees athletes — and women athletes in particular — owning their style, it’s powerful.
“Truly, it’s different to be able to own who you are and how you walk on the court that day,” she said. “To be able to really walk in your power and be like, ‘This is who I’m gonna define myself as,’ is just different. Listen, we have the feminine girls, we have the masculine girls. We have the ones that truly may not know style, the ones who may be criticized on what their style is, but they own it. And I love every single bit of it.”
For our fifth episode of Aesthetically Speaking, we dive into this and more with Andscape host Ari Chambers. Watch below as Hampton explains understanding her clients from their roots, what she loves about the younger generation, and that Paige Bueckers’ white draft suit (you know the one).
