Air Antilles Forced To Liquidate: What It Means For Your Travel Plans

Travelers of the regional Caribbean airline Air Antilles should be proactive about seeking refunds and rebooking, as a court has reportedly ordered the company to liquidate.

In late April, the Journal of Saint-Barth reported the news, citing the Commercial Court of Pointe-à-Pitre. The publication detailed that since early February, three offers were ultimately withdrawn or rejected for obtaining Air Antilles, which went bankrupt in December 2025 and subsequently grounded its flights.

As per a court order, the latest news on the carrier’s status states that Air Antilles must liquidate because it doesn’t currently have a solid plan for financial recovery. Notably, one offer was a partial bid for portions of Air Antilles that the court ultimately struck down for failing to meet the legal objectives for the sale. It also allegedly lacked a clear strategy for the carrier’s staff. For that bid, judges ruled it out as being “completely devoid of a social component.”

Regarding a separate offer, the court order detailed that “it faces insurmountable financial and legal obstacles.” Additionally, judges believed that the bidder didn’t “sufficiently appreciate the difficulties posed by the procedure as well as the conditions that must be met to obtain the administrative authorizations and licenses necessary for operating the business.”

With offers of potential, or even partial, salvation either withdrawn or rejected, Air Antilles is now subject to the judicial liquidation order.

“During the observation period, the administrator concluded that it was impossible to present a recovery plan through continued operations, given the size of the liabilities, estimated at over 56 million euros, and in light of the persistent operating losses,” the court order detailed of the situation.

Losing Air Antilles Leaves A Meaningful Gap in Caribbean Regional Travel

Air Antilles and Air Guyane are sister airlines parented under Compagnie Aérienne Interrégionale Express (CAIRE). Air Guyane was also reportedly forced to liquidate back in 2023.

Without Air Antilles, inter-island connectivity during peak tourism seasons in the Caribbean suffers. The airline promoted itself as connecting 28 French, British, American, Hispanic, and Dutch islands across the region. Based in Guadeloupe, its destinations included Martinique, Saint Barths, the Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, Puerto Rico, and more.

According to The Street, France revoked Air Antilles operating license after the carrier failed a safety audit.

A notice on the airline’s website discloses a “temporary interruption of flights.”

“We wish to inform you that the operating licenses of the company Air Antilles are temporarily suspended until further notice. As a result, our commercial and flight operations are suspended, effective immediately,” says Air Antilles. “This decision was taken unilaterally by the Directorate of Civil Aviation Safety, and we deeply regret it. All our teams are fully mobilized to support you.”

“We encourage you to regularly check your emails and calls to receive the latest information regarding your trip. We thank you for your understanding and patience in this exceptional situation,” the company concludes.

Impacted Air Antilles flyers should first contact the airline regarding refunds and rebooking options. They may also be able to utilize assistance from their travel agent, travel credit card company, bank, or, depending on the policy, travel insurance. For alternative airlines, travelers should consider Caribbean Airlines or Air Caraïbes.
