Karen Moves Across From HBCU, Shouts ‘THIS IS OUR NEIGHBORHOOD’ During Confrontation With Student

White people, I’m going to hold your collective hand when I say this, but white entitlement has driven your delegation off a Kaucasian Karen Kliff, and we at the Black delegation think it’s long past time you had a meeting about it.
This week, a viral Instagram video featured a couple in Austin, Texas, who moved across from an HBCU and had a colonizer’s caucasity to complain about students parking on a public street the couple does not own, but felt entitled to leave angry notes on students’ cars, according to the woman who recorded the video while trying to inform them that everyone had a legal right to park there.
Atlanta Black Star identified the woman with the camera as Bri Nunn, a senior at Huston-Tillotson University, a private institution with around 1,000 students, in East Austin’s Chicon neighborhood.
“This couple has been harassing the Black students and professors at Huston-Tillotson University,” Nunn wrote in the caption of the video. “They chose to buy a home directly across the street from an HBCU where there is LEGAL street parking. They have been terrorizing the students, writing notes and putting it on their cars, and even blocked a Black professor’s car IN with their trash can and recycling bin to prevent him from moving. Keep in mind people have been parking here for YEARS with no complaints and the neighbors are friendly and understanding.”
In the video, Nunn calmly confronted the couple and told them, “It’s legal to park here,” before checking that they were the ones who kept leaving notes on people’s cars, which the woman did not deny.
“Well, it’s like we had a park delivery this morning, and…we paid $1.5 million for this house,” the white woman said, as if how much they paid for their new home had anything to do with anything.
Then, despite the fact that no one had become hostile or insulting up to this point, Gentrifier from the Block started shouting about how “y’all’s graduation rates are at 25%,” which, even if true, is none of her insufferably white-ass business, nor is it relevant to the subject at hand, which is that their supposedly $ 1.5 million house didn’t include the public street in front of it in the price.
After Nunn tried to explain to her that they are in “a historically Black neighborhood,” Karen immediately brought big Klan energy out from under wherever she keeps her spare audacity, shouting, “THIS IS OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.”
“Yes, Karen, you paid to live on a street that’s legal to park,” Nunn said, still more calmly than I would’ve been at this point. “Don’t raise your voice at me. First of all, you’re writing on people’s cars.”
Karen tells Nunn to “get off my property,” and threatens to “call the cops,” because, apparently, caucasity clouds the mind, and she still doesn’t understand that the public street that Nunn was standing on is not her property.
Anyway, the two continue to go back and forth before Nunn tells Karen’s Karen carrier, presumably her husband, to “get your wife,” to which he appears to respond by trying to de-escalate the situation, and he even acknowledges that it is, in fact, legal to park there.
Look, y’all, I’d be remiss if I didn’t note that the couple had a James Talarico campaign sign on their lawn, which means we aren’t even talking about MAGA white people. The woman whose knee-jerk reaction was to start denigrating Black students based on what she thinks their graduation rates are, all because she was calmly confronted about notes she had no right to leave on their cars, is likely a white liberal, and I’ve written before about how they are far from immune to default racism.
So, this isn’t even a “white people, get your cousins” situation; these are the ones who are supposed to be the cousins.
And then they wonder why Black people need to carve out our own spaces. This is why.
