When it comes to the Lakers and their chances of winning another NBA championship, Anthony Davis has a clear view of what needs to be done. According to Davis, for the Lakers to have the best shot at another title, they need to acquire a true center.

Davis believes that having a dominant center on the team is crucial for success in the NBA. He points to the Lakers’ previous championship run, where they had Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee as their centers. Davis believes that having a big presence in the paint not only helps on defense, but it also opens up opportunities on offense.

In a sit-down interview with Shams Charania, he said;

“I think we need another big. I feel like I’ve always been at my best when I’ve been a four and having a big out there. We know it worked when we won a championship with JaVale and Dwight, them at the five, and I’m at the four.” 

While referring to the 2019-20 team as the “perfect construction,” Davis highlighted the balance of shooters, defensive players, and scorers that defined that championship squad. He candidly stated that the current Lakers roster is still “multiple pieces away” from reaching that optimal level.

It remains to be seen whether the Lakers will heed Davis’ advice and make a move for a true center. But one thing is clear – Davis believes that having a dominant center is vital for the Lakers’ championship aspirations.
