Tyla may have spent most of her career being likened to the early days of Pop megastar Rihanna, but – as revealed via a recent Billboard interview – the Bajan bad girl isn’t exactly at the top of the ‘Water‘ singer’s list of musical influences.

Still hot on the promo trail for the Sean Paul-assisted remix of her latest hit ‘Push 2 Start,’ Tyla took to Billboard to not only chat about being honored at the magazine’s forthcoming Women in Music event but also her career-at-large.

When quizzed on which women inspire her most, the burgeoning diva named off a megawatt list.

“Tems is a big one. What she’s been able to do has been very inspiring. Britney [Spears], Whitney Houston, and Aaliyah,” the Impact Honoree told Billboard.

Elsewhere in the interview, Tyla confirmed she’s hard-at-work on a new studio effort – the highly anticipated follow-up to her eponymous debut album released in March 2024.

“New album,” she said when asked what’s in store for 2025. “I’ve changed a lot in a short amount of time because I was kind of forced to with how fast I had to adapt to everything. I don’t think it’s going to be the same energy [as ‘Tyla’] at all, especially with what I’ve started making. It’s different, but also still Tyla.”

As of time of this report, the South African songstress has not provided a tentative release date for her sophomore LP.
