ALERT: The sentencing of the Canadian rapper Tory Lanez who facing up to 22 years and eight months in prison for shooting hip hop artist Megan Thee Stallion was again delayed Tuesday, more than five months after he was convicted of the crime in a high-profile trial that roiled the music industry.
What We Know:
- A sentencing originally planned for Tuesday was delayed at the request of Lanez’s attorneys, who have until August 1 to submit a sentencing recommendation ahead of the new August 7 sentencing date.
- Prosecutors have asked Lanez be sentenced to 13 years in state prison.
- A jury convicted Lanez in December of three felony charges related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion: assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
- Lanez requested and was denied a new trial in May and has seemingly began to lose the faith of his supporters. His sentencing has now been delayed 5 times.
Activists have called for the deportation of Lanez though no determination has been made in that matter.
