Rumors of Deion Sanders Leaving Colorado Downplayed by an Insider

For several months, Deion Sanders has been linked to the position of head coach for the Dallas Cowboys. His alleged chase by Jerry Jones started even before Mike McCarthy’s contract ended last week. But so far, Sanders has decided to stay in Boulder.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, “[things] have quietened” on the Sanders-to-Dallas front Thursday morning. According to him, the Cowboys are currently “focusing on other candidates.” Kevin Borba, presenter of Locked on Buffs, expressed his satisfaction with this after talking about the continuing drama on YouTube earlier today.

“[Schefter said] Jerry Jones never committed [to giving Deion Sanders the job]… it was just a conversation… if you’re a Colorado fan, you have to be a little pleased. Even though we’ve known for quite some time now that this is Deion Sanders using [Dallas] as leverage.”

What specific leverage is Sanders looking for, then? Based on Cowboys rumors, Borba is certain Sanders isn’t merely looking for a wage increase.

He thinks Sanders is making every effort to enhance the Colorado resources available to him.

“Deion Sanders is not complaining or leveraging for himself, for his pockets. He’s leveraging to get more help around him. Joel Klatt confirmed that, ‘Colorado needs more investment from fans, more investment in the program. They want to upgrade facilities. They want to upgrade the coaching pool… Coach Prime is trying to do something special.’”

In college football, winning nine games is far simpler than developing into a serious contender for the national championship. Football gives funding that must be used to enhance the program as a whole if you want to make the next step. Sanders is requesting that Colorado not only talk the talk but really act on it, according to Borba.
