Don’t claim that Jeremiah Smith, a wide receiver for Ohio State, didn’t warn them. On Wednesday night, the Buckeyes defeated Oregon 41-21 in the Rose Bowl, a fairly lopsided contest that showcased their offensive prowess.

Smith and Ohio State quarterback Will Howard combined for 187 yards and two touchdowns, setting a program record for the freshman wide receiver in a single game. Howard spent the whole evening tearing apart the Ducks’ defense.

However, Smith provided the Ducks a clear warning about how they should prepare defensively prior to Ohio State’s resounding victory.

Earlier this week, Smith said to reporters: “I’m just laughing in my head. Why are y’all really playing man-on-man against us, or against me, I should say?”

“And when we see man [coverage] against any of our receivers, we’re going to take a shot down the field.

“So I’m just letting everybody know right now that if you play man Wednesday, we’re taking a shot.”

The Buckeyes have a loaded wide receiver room with Smith, Emeka Egbuka, and Carnell Tate, as they usually do, but Smith stood out the most to help Ohio State bounce back from a defeat to Oregon in October and move on to the CFP semifinal.

On January 10, Ohio State will play Texas, the No. 5 seed in the playoffs, in the Cotton Bowl.
