As moguls go, few have made a mark quite like Diddy.
Establishing booming businesses that have spanned TV, fashion, fragrance, and beverages, the entrepreneur’s most notable success has stemmed from music.
Having set up Bad Boy Records in 1993, Diddy – born Sean Combs – launched the careers of some of the biggest names ever. He notably produced and featured on much of their music too.
As is the case with most success stories, drama has defined the underside of the narrative, with a number of acts from the label’s roster publicly lambasting Diddy with claims of missing royalties and questionable percent splits.
Well, it appears, those complaints are likely to be no more.
Because, in a game-changing deal (aptly revealed on Labor Day), Diddy is reassigning his publishing rights to the Bad Boy roster of artists.
Full story below…
Citing a source close to the star, Variety reports that he has “decided to reassign his Bad Boy publishing rights back to all Bad Boy artists and writers who helped build Bad Boy into the powerhouse it is today.”
The major move means his Bad Boy publishing rights (and the revenue attached) are being rerouted to stars such as Notorious B.I.G (Estate), Faith Evans, 112, Mase, The Lox, and more.
Unconfirmed reports suggest Diddy opted to do this instead of a personally lucrative multi-million dollar catalog deal. A source said of his rationale:
“[Diddy] sees it as part of a broader goal of promoting economic empowerment for Black artists and culture.”
The news comes ahead of the September 15 release of Diddy’s new project, ‘The Love Album: Off the Grid,’ which features an all-star list of names including The Weeknd, Mary J. Blige, Summer Walker, Justin Bieber, and Jazmine Sullivan.
