Home to hits such as top 10 ‘Stupid Love’ and chart-topper ‘Rain on Me’ with Ariana Grande, the LP found favor with fans of the multihyphenate singer at a time when much of the industry shut down due to the global health crisis.
However, the star has revealed that it wasn’t an easy window for her and she appears to allude to “interesting” feelings about the music she created within it.
Speaking on the timeframe during which she crafted the chart-topping LP, Gaga said:
“Maybe over five years ago, I think I was in a really dark place. And I wouldn’t say I made my best music during that time at all. I think ‘Chromatica’ was really hard for me. That was a very authentic dance record that I’m very proud of, and I loved working on that. But it was just a hard time in my life. I think it’s hard to feel deeply authentic when you don’t feel well.”
Scratching beneath the polished veneer of the remarks, it’s clear what Gaga is getting at. And we appreciate the honesty about her true feelings – something few artists are brave enough (or achieved enough) to share.
That said, we enjoyed ‘Chromatica’ (Justice for ‘Babylon’) and feel like it functions as a solid bridge to the more fleshed-out Dance-Pop found on ‘Mayhem.’
