We need to talk about this crazy rumor going around about ESPN buying up all our beloved football networks. I mean, come on, who the heck wants ESPN to have the NFL Network, NFL Redzone, and NFL+? We all know how ESPN likes to shove its agenda down our throats when it comes to sports coverage, so imagine what they would do to our football.
I don’t know about you, but I am not about to let ESPN ruin our favorite sport. Football is our escape, our passion, and ESPN just doesn’t get it. They’re all about drama and creating controversy, and I don’t want that nonsense interfering with our Sunday rituals.
According to rumors, ESPN is gearing up to buy the NFL Network, NFL Redzone, and NFL+ for a whopping $2 billion but fans aren’t happy and want those in charge to halt this transaction.
ESPN and the NFL have discussed a deal in which the Worldwide Leader would control NFL Network, RedZone, and the league’s fantasy platform.
Talks between the NFL and ESPN are reportedly back on as the league is looking to sell its assets of NFL Network, NFL Redzone, NFL.com, and its fantasy business, according to John Ourand of PUCK.
The deal, which would have a seismic impact on both the Worldwide Leader and the league, could be worth as much as $2 billion.
ESPN is under pressure to add more content, and this deal might be what they need to make it happen.
By taking ownership of NFL Network and Redzone, the Worldwide leader in sports would be able to offer more to prospective subscribers, including the eight games that have exclusively been screened on NFL Network under the current broadcasting arrangement.
But what does this mean for us fans? Well, if this deal goes through, ESPN would have a monopoly on NFL coverage. They already have Monday Night Football, and with these new acquisitions, they would control the entire sports space and that’s something fans want to prevent.
