Chart Check: JT’s ‘Okay’ – Her First Solo Hot 100 Entry – Is The Week’s Highest-Charting Female Debut Overall

JT may be embroiled in an ongoing beef with fellow rapstress Sukihana, but something about the commercial response to the City Girls star’s latest solo track suggests she will be okay.

Ahead of the release of her debut solo mixtape, ‘City Cinderella,’ JT has been treating her growing legion of fans to tunes from the project including the viral ‘No Bars’ and well-received ‘Sideways.’

Despite the warm reception of the aforementioned, however, it wasn’t until the rapper (born JaTavia Shakara Johnson) dropped the April 26-released ‘Okay‘ that she really started getting traction on digital outlets.

Look below to see the numbers that propelled the Akachi-produced bop to its #74 premiere on this week’s Hot 100.

  • Streaming ≈ 8.1 million U.S.-based streams
  • Digital downloads ≈ 9,500 sold
  • Radio airplay ≈ 500,000 audience impressions

The second Hot 100 appearance of Johnson’s career overall, ‘Okay’ – which follows the top 40 entry of Summer Walker‘s 2021 hit ‘Ex for a Reason’ – marks her inaugural entry unaccompanied.

Even more noteworthy is the song’s opening in the all-genre chart’s third quadrant comes as the week’s highest debut by a female act.

In fact, among all new and previously uncharted hits, it’s the only tune by a female printed in the entire Hot 100 this week and seems poised to reach even higher heights on the hitlist next week.

Until we find out for sure, look below to see who joins JaTavia on the updated edition of TGJ Chart Check.
