Perusers of the refreshed Hot 100 are seeing red thanks to the impressive premiere of Doja Cat‘s latest single, ‘Paint the Town Red.’
The latest taste of new music set to line her forthcoming fourth studio album, the August 4-arrived tune was delivered after a particularly controversial period for the Hip Pop star – one that not only saw her slam her own work but later slam her own fans.
And while the lack of attention afforded to the ‘Red’ predecessor, ‘Attention,’ may have spelled worry for the remaining diehard Cat fans (once affectionately called #Kittens), ‘Red’ – by coloring Doja’s name in the topmost quadrant of the Billboard Hot 100 premiere with its debut – is seemingly reversing the concern.
Details inside.
Doja’s ‘Red,’ which samples Dionne Warwick‘s classic 1964 hit, ‘Walk on By,’ has already walked into the Hot 100’s top 20 in its inaugural week – marking the 12th time she’s visited the chart territory in her career.
Here are the numbers that powered the placement.
- Streaming ≈ 13.9 million U.S.-based streams
- Digital Downloads ≈ 2,500 sold
- Radio Airplay ≈ 17.6 million audience impressions
Premiering at #15, the song not only comes as the week’s overall top debut but also the highest first-week mark Cat’s clawed to by her lonesome on the hitlist in her storied career.
While her previous solo best was the ‘Planet HER’ hit, ‘Ain’t Sh*t‘ (which premiered at #24 at the height of its popularity), her overall best remains the #9 arrival of Post Malone‘s ‘I Like You (A Happier Song).’
