Billboard Deems Doja Cat’s ‘Planet HER’ the Top Female Rap Album of the 21st Century / Omits Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, & Megan Thee Stallion LPs All Together

Just a day after sending Taylor Swift fans (affectionately called #Swifties) into a frenzy with reports she’d been crowned the ‘Top Artist of the 21st Century,’ Billboard’s garnered a similar reaction from Doja Cat followers (affectionately called #Kittens) after listing her third studio album – 2021’s ‘Planet HER‘ – as the top female Rap album of the millennium so far.

Billboard gave the ‘Get Into It (Yuh)’ hitmaker some good news to get into on Thursday (January 9) when they unveiled the updated ‘Top 200 Albums of the 21st Century‘ chart.

Based on overall performance on the weekly Billboard 200 albums chart from the start of 2000 through the end of 2024, the total list – led by Morgan Wallen and Swift – is chockfull of placement surprises including Cat’s ‘HER’ at #86 (the highest ranking of any female Rap effort released over the last 25 years).

In fact, the only other LP from a femcee included was Cardi B‘s 2018 blockbuster ‘Invasion of Privacy‘ at #136.

Hip-Hop heads were stunned to see big projects like Missy Elliott‘s ‘Miss E. So Addictive’ (2001) and ‘Under Construction’ (2002), Eve‘s ‘Scorpion’ (2001), Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Pink Friday‘ (2010) and ‘Pink Friday 2‘ (2023), Lil Kim‘s ‘The Notorious K.I.M.,’ and Megan Thee Stallion‘s ‘Good News‘ (2020) absent.

Enjoying a #2 peak on the Billboard 200 at the height of its popularity, ‘HER’ boasts the longest top 10 run of any female Rap LP in history and second longest-charting overall among femcees (178 weeks).

Only Cardi’s ‘Privacy’ stayed on the all-genre chart longer (222 weeks).

Among other claims to historic fame, ‘HER’ is the first female Rap album to launch 3 top 10 hits to the Hot 100.
