Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions has the most unique personality in the NFL. He takes mistakes very seriously and plays with a level of passion that very few players can match. The Lions‘ season ended in just that manner. Although it may have been the greatest regular season in the team’s history, the final note was undoubtedly one of disappointment because they were unable to build on their historic two playoff victories from the previous season.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (14) celebrates a touchdown against Jacksonville Jaguars during the second half at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024.
The Washington Commanders, this year’s new upstart team, defeated St. Brown and the Lions in a Divisional Round shootout at home.
Amon-Ra St. Brown’s brutal take on the Eagles
St. Brown thinks the Eagles should make Thursday night their regular season start, and the Lions are scheduled to go to Philadelphia for their head-to-head game.
NEWS: #Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown wants the #Eagles to face a real team like Detroit on opening night.
“You would see what could’ve happened in an NFC Championship with a healthy defense, how that sh*t operates.”

Detroit would not be inexperienced with this; in 2023, they were the visitors for the home opener against the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs, and they managed to pull off a significant upset victory away from home. Maybe St. Brown thinks they can do it again, sparking a successful season similar to their unexpected 2023 campaign, which saw the team’s first two postseason victories in several decades.
Naturally, it’s unclear exactly who St. Brown is “calling out.”
The league office makes the decision, not the Eagles’ players or coaches, regardless of how much they might desire to start the season against a formidable opponent like Detroit. Maybe that’s where St. Brown is trying to get his point across, but he’s right when he says it would be a great way to kick off the season with a fun game.
A battle between a healthier version of their team and the reigning champions may be considered a matchup between the two best teams in the league. The Lions were the favorites to win the Super Bowl all season until they were hit by the injury bug in a historic way. Let’s see if the league can pull this off.
