The New York Jets have let go of the 41-year-old quarterback star Aaron Rodgers in a widely anticipated decision. Rodgers’s release became official at the outset of the new league year on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Eastern time.

The Jets have made their intentions to part ways with the four-time NFL MVP known a month prior and do not plan to publicly announce the procedure, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Where will Aaron Rodgers move next?

Rodgers is now free to sign with any team, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, both of whom have reportedly shown the most interest in him.

Each of these teams is in need of a quarterback, and the Minnesota Vikings have also been considered a possible landing spot for the seasoned quarterback.

Rodgers is not the only prominent quarterback awaiting a signing decision for the Steelers and Giants. Russell Wilson is also a possibility for the two teams, as he visited the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday evening, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The report stated that the 36-year-old will then check out the Giants’ facilities on Friday. However, most attention will be on Rodgers, who has not yet commented on the Jets‘ harsh decision to release the former Green Bay Packers star.

The Jets will categorize him as a post-June 1 cut, allowing the franchise to distribute his $49 million cap hit into 2025 ($14 million) and 2026 ($35 million).

Until June 1, Gang Green will bear the full burden of his cap charge, which is set at $23.5 million.
